One of the drawbacks of the cashless society is we tend to spend a bit more -- not feeling the greenbacks somehow abstracts the notion of what we're paying and makes it a bit easier to rationalize the larger sums, I think. So we swipe and we spend maybe a few bucks more than we like. Happens to the best of us.

Unless you're Dale's daughter, who went a little nutty at CVS and, if Visa is to be believed, spent enough to cover the national debt...two thousand times over. Final tally is $23 quadrillion, or $23 million-millionbillion, if you like. Oh, and a $20 negative balance fee.

Hmm... I saw a very similar story on the KC news today with nearly the exact same amount charged elsewhere. Do you suppose hackers are trying to get free masses of money?

The guy buying cigarettes? Saw the same thing, too. And it's not like 23 quadrillion is a figure that recurs often in everyday financial transactions.

I dunno...if I were a hacker, I'd be a bit less conspicuous. Maybe someone's trying to enter the transaction while wearing mittens. As one does during summer.

Ah, apparently it's a Visa error, and several people got tagged for that exact sum. Well, this should keep Visa afloat for a few more years.
