I like both films, but I definitely lean towards the original. The two movies pretty much sum up the tastes of me and a close friend.
I'm the scifi/horror type of person, and he loves Aliens, the scifi/action type. Both are fine movies, but they are so different in tone and storytelling. It's great that both exist with each other.
And my brain is barely functioning tonight, so I'm probably babbling.
