Weeks 8-9: Close but no banana
Scoring 154 in a fantasy league is a good thing. In fact, the Pretty Birds hadn't scored that much before, so I was pretty happy in Week 8. And I still felt like a moral victor, despite the fact that the Birds' opponents, the Dayton Raptors, picked up 173 points (damn you, Denver Broncos!) to tag us for our first loss since week 2. Fooey.
Week 9 was going to be scary to start, because three of our players -- Indy's Peyton Manning and Reggie Wayne and Minnesota's Marcus Robinson -- played on Monday night, so after Sunday, the score was going to be a little lopsided. Little, in this case, equals 130-71 in favor of the Aircap Aviators. Gulp. We'd need a mind-blowing performance from Peyton to even come close, and we got just that -- close. Final score 130-120. Peyton 39 points, Reggie 8, Marcus 2. Grrr.
As a result, the Birds are now nested comfortably in the fourth and final playoff slot, if the playoffs started today. But this week the opponents are the Dairyland Cheeseheads, QBed by Brett Favvvvrrre, which is pretty ominous. Of course, we've got Peyton and a few other players assembled around him. Oh, yeah, and since LaDainian is (a) injured and (b) on a bye week, maybe I should bench him. Who could I put in his place? Well, there's this Jerome Bettis guy....
