Via dragonscholar: Actor George Takei, best known for his role as Mr. Hikaru Sulu in "Star Trek," came out as homosexual in the current issue of Frontiers, a biweekly Los Angeles magazine covering the gay and lesbian community.

And he's 68? Good God, when did this happen? When did everybody get so freakin' old?

If there was anyone from the cast that I would peg as gay, he's the one. I just kinda think it's funny that he "officially" came out at this point. It's not like there are a bunch of queer-bashing Trekkies out there whose minds he needs to open; he's been himself this long without the spotlight on his sex life, so why open the doors now?

That's what I was wondering. Sheryl Swoopes apparently came out as a result of her sponsorship of a cruise line which caters to homosexuals.... But I've not heard of Takei doing anything lately (unless, of course, that's the point).
