Roll the bones

So I tried Petals Around the Roses for the first time today, and it had me going for several, er, minutes. Though if it took the math professor described therein a year to figure it out, well, it only goes to prove my suspicions about higher education (and sorry, the explanation of "the smarter you are, the longer it takes to figure out" flies not with me).

The gist: it's a puzzle, not a game. If you're trapped at work and want to work the other half of your brain today, give it a shot. Might be diverting or, alternately, annoying.

It took me about thirty seconds. Take that as you will.

Uhhh...

This is why I'm a lowly data entry clerk.

I think you might have given something away in your post that got my subconscious headed in the correct direction. I came up with two immediate hypothesis and used the wrong one first (of course). Less than a minute to figure it out, but I didn't time myself. My second try was correct and I proved my theory with subsequent tries.

Even though it was short, it was fun!

I'm wondering how long it would take my favorite math teacher to figure it out. :)

Took me about five minutes. I blame my left-brain engineering training for not getting it sooner.

...welcome to the hive-mind, mon frere. Dug the column this week, btw. I may have to get myself a new 64, even if I do have most of my old library emulated (I canna find the Godzilla game anywhere, and I do miss it so...).
