Week 15: And then there were four

The last week of Nuffle's regular season started with Saturday games -- and caught me sleeping.

Chiefs (and Pretty Birds) RB Derrick Blaylock was deactivated for this weekend, but yours truly forgot all about the Saturday game until, well, Saturday, too late to do roster changes. Bah. So there's one person who's a waste of roster space. His spot could've been taken by Roy Williams (23 points), Jerome Bettis (20), Dante Hall (14) or even Onterrio Smith (1). Any would've been an improvement. But no. Blank. Zip. Zilch.

Worse, Peyton Manning's Colts played the Ravens and performed...merely adequately. Just 18 points for the Manning, 8 for Marcus Pollard, 3 for Reggie Wayne. Gah.

Fortunately, Drew Bennett (28), Corey Dillon (24), LaDainian Tomlinson (23), and even Nate Burleson (25) showed up and played their guts out. Pretty Birds beat the Raptors 145-112 to end the season 10-5. Sadly, that bumps the Raptors into fifth place and out of the playoffs. Rrgh. Sorry 'bout that, Ryan.

Next week, the playoffs: #1 seeded Dairyland goes up against the #4 Hutch Jaydogs, and my Pretty Birds take on the Aircap Aviators (to whom we've lost -- twice, 98-104 and 120-130). But the most intriguing matchup of the week is definitely Chargers vs. Colts -- this game will determine how well the Pretty Birds do. If it's a shootout, we're unstoppable. If it's a defensive struggle, we're toast. The season comes down to this.

No hard feelings. I took a hell of a slide the last six weeks. Not following football that closely, I didn't know how to move people to make up for slacking players. Seeing how I didn't beat you, my other chance, Cory, didn't come through and I'm stuck watching the playoffs from the side.

Congratulations on a fine game and good luck in the playoffs.
