Velcome to your doom

Of course, when I bring in a DVD of classical music to bolster my stash I play at work, out of literally three days of music to choose from, why does iTunes immediately fixate on Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor? Does it have an empathic interface I'm not aware of? (And if so, should I be surprised that it's in an Apple product first?)

In a slightly more upbeat note, glad to see the short-form Hugo noms -- of the three episodes I'm trying (with some success) to get my cow-orker hooked on Doctor Who with, all three got nominations. Then again, so did Star Trek New Voyages (...buh?) and the broadcast version of Razor, which, I gotta admit, misses some elements of the DVD version. Of the five, though, I'd choose "Blink," if only because it had a resonance that none of the others did ("Family of Blood" approached it at times, but it felt too diluted, by show's end)....

(Edit: Heh, and then it plays the scherzo from Beethoven's Ninth. That's more like it.)

Man, "Blink" was like the best thing on TV ever. You go, Hugos.

And last year's winner was "The Girl in the Fireplace," which is probably my favorite Who ep ever. Yes, I can't help it.

"Girl In The Fireplace" is hands-down the best Doctor Who episode ever. One of the few non-finale episodes that stands up to repeat viewings.

'Blink' is probably one of my favorite, if not the favorite, Who episodes ever. That includes all seasons with my 'tied for first place in my heart with Ten' Doc Five.

However, it doesn't really seem to be a representative of the series episode to me. Doc and Martha aren't in the majority of it, and its got a very suspense/thriller feel to it (which I adored, and I couldn't sleep in the same room with any statuary, even the tiny ones, for a few days) which is either toned down or non-existent in most of the rest of the season.

Another episode/episodes I would recommend would be 'Empty Child'/'Doctor Dances' from Doc Nine's season.

Well, I think she's hooked now -- she's seen Nine and Ten, and doesn't quite get the connection beyond what I've told her ("No, really, they're the same person"), so I need to get her to the Nine/Ten transition, and I don't know that I can do that in one disk. Well, maybe. I'd need "Dalek," of course, and I'd like "Empty/Dances" (for Cap'n Jack, mainly, in addition to it being a very creepy little story). But no, there's no way to do that and work in enough of Bad Wolf to be coherent. So the Nine/Ten transition may be a two-parter....

Well, I can attest from being seated right behind Steven Moffat (Blink) at last year's Hugo Ceremony that he certainly appreciated winning (another) Hugo...not to mention that he flew to Japan pretty much just for the ceremony. And from talking with Paul Cornell (Human Nature/Family of Blood), he'd certainly appreciate one as well.

Based on my own iPod and it's uncanny ability to shuffle mood music - I'm going to say yes. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one having my aura read by my electronics.

So I tried to watch the Star Trek: The New Voyages ep because it was the only nominee I hadn't seen and, ouch. I realize that it's kinda cool that a fan production made it in but it's really reaaaaly not on the par with any of the other nominees.

As for who I'd like to win..I can't decide between the two Who nominees. Human Nature/Family of Blood had all the drama and angst that I rather love about new Who but Blink was straight-up terrifying and had great lines like "wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey stuff".

I'm glad I'm not a Hugo judge and, therefore, do not have to choose :)
