FYI to all Olympics viewers (no spoilers)

...unless you are unflinching in the face of grotesque accidents of anatomy, you might want to skip the weightlifting highlights tonight.

Just sayin'.

Bones? Joints? Internal organs suddenly becoming external?

Almost, yes, not quite. The Hungarian gent's name is Janos Baranyai (link not safe for stomach), and I'm afraid he's going down in Olympic lore for the wrong reasons. I would rather he be remembered as having the force of will to push his body to its literal breaking point....

Righto. I read the story without looking at any pictures or video. I especially like (read: am thoroughly disgusted by) the description of the giant viewscreen showing the moment several times in slo-mo for the shocked audience. Nicely done, video guys. Make sure to prolong the horror for the spectators.

I'm sure it's all over YouTube by now. With any luck, people won't use it as the next RickRoll.

As he fell to the floor, he was surrounded by what looked to be arena employees to block the spectators' views. Of course, there's half a million cameras in there....

It may make it to YouTube at some point, but apparently NBC (no fan of YouTube or iTunes) has been hammering it pretty hard when clips do appear.

Yeah that was a serious ouch moment there. Weightlifting is actually remarkably safe. Injuries like this one are very rare.

That was a bad lift going up. Normally you want to let go of the bar when you feel it drifting like that. He fought it and wham, there went the elbow. Ouch, ouch, ouch!

The good (?!) news is that it looks to be a dislocation and not a fracture a la Joe Theismann. The bad news is, well...yeah. Ow.

no no no
