Well, it was fun while it lasted

Because it bears repeating: bring me the skull of Norv Turner.

Sadly, this is the worst possible outcome of the season -- good enough to keep Turner around, bad enough to be unacceptable. Grrgh. Still, good luck Steelers and all the birdie-teams.

I have no delusions about who played the better game today, but sakes, the Steelers had a lot of calls and non-calls go their way. When Rivers got slammed head-first into the ground on his (third?) sack, and all the flags stayed pocketed... that was when I said "Oh, it's going to be one of those games, then.

So yeah, about the worst possible outcome for hopes of ending the Norv Era.

Better still were the positive comments from AJ Smith re: Darren Sproles, followed by a distinct non-committal answer on whether Sproles could be a featured back. Whether this is saber-rattling with impending free-agency looming or just genuine cluelessness, I'm not encouraged either way.

The Smith/Turner years have been runs of hysterically good fortune and exceptionally talented athletes masking a swath of very bad decisions (also see Turner, Michael and Neal, Lorenzo). I don't think years like this catalyze genuine change, so we're going to have to weather a Ryan-Leaf-caliber debacle for there to be a genuine upswing.
