Bits of possibly relevant information

[livejournal.com profile] gloomchen's officially launched Nihilism and Cupcakes, also available for your LJ RSSing needs at [livejournal.com profile] nihilismcupcakz. If you're into fitness/weight-loss/exercise/nutrition blogging filtered through a mindset that's realistic and positive but not necessarily pinky-pinkeriffic, give it a shot.

Via [livejournal.com profile] roseneko, it turns out the "I Write Like" meme is probably just a SEO scam, feeding off viral links to shill to budding authors. Which means everyone perched on ledges because their writing's been scientifically analyzed to be reminiscent of Dan Brown can calm back down. Not that we're expecting copy-n-paste memes to have AI or uncanny insight to begin with, I hope, but the idea could've been fun if...implemented better...or implemented at all, really.

If you missed that meme altogether, then you probably missed the >200 Old Spice response videos. Drink them in. That's how you market yourself via the Internet. My three keepers: 12755JDH ("In case, as your name suggests, you actually are a robot...."), George Stephanopolous ("Monocle smile!") and Anonymous ("The fish again"), but they're all fun. And don't miss the techno remix.

In other news, Scott Pilgrim's Finest Hour hits shelves on Tuesday (hint: it's like Deathly Hallows, only with more Super Mario references), and the movie's only a month away. So I've been occupying myself by rewatching the first, second and international trailers. And the video game trailer. And the MTV Video Awards clip. And the Look Inside clip. And the avatar-maker (just can't quite get my hair right). Simple mind, simple pleasures.

Brian showed me the trailer to Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, and I don't think I'd laughed that hard in days. No idea what the books are about, but I'm definitely looking forward to the movie. :)

I forgot: here are good frame-by-frame walkthroughs of both the first and the international trailers. A few minor spoilers lurk therein, but nothing earth-shattering.

The books are very indie-rock, NES-era video game, silly social dynamic, PG-13, but they're also very polarizing: for three people who love them, one person loathes them. The titular protagonist is capable of some profoundly disappointing acts, but they're not particularly out-of-character, and (possibly spoilery) he seems to be paying the price for making them. And you may need a scorecard to keep track of the characters (it took me a little while to pick up on the visual cues used to discern the female characters). But (like the frame-by-frames indicate) the film seems to be adhering very closely to the source material (in the realm of 300 or Watchmen in terms of fidelity, so take that as you will)...except for the ending, which wasn't released when the film was made. I have no idea how that's going to play out. (I've read there'll be two distinct endings, one for either medium, but doesn't that seem...counterproductive?)

If you check out Edgar Wright's blog, he's in the middle of posting 'remix trailers' that reflect different aspects of the film, and include a handful of new footage. Four of seven are up (one for each evil ex).

(I have the book ordered through my store, which means I probably won't get it til Thursday when our stuff from our main supplier shows up. Although sometimes we get new releases on the Monday before they're released; we can't sell them til Tuesday, but they show up. Fingers crossed.)
