I are Sims Sig. This are Sims thread.

It's just such a relief to work on a computer and not have to worry about Parallels, Exchange Server, or Remote Desktop. So I've been unwinding by playing the Sims, and specifically in recreating two families: The Utonium family and the Mythbusters family.

So in the upper-scale place in downtown Pleasantville there's a rich man, Professor, and his three girls: Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup. On the other side of town are the five Mythbusters roomies: Jamie, Adam, Grant, Kari and Tori. (Bother: can't make Jamie both bald and beret'd. And the randomly-assigned sleepwear for Kari is, er, frightening.) Turns out that both Professor and Jamie have similar ambitions: home businesses. The Prof, in addition to buying a club downtown, begins making toy robots, Buttercup contributes some daisies, and they start selling them at home. One of the first visitors is, indeed, Jamie Mythbuster, and when I divert my focus for just a second, Professor Utonium is furious with Jamie.

So Utoniums/Mythbusters might just be the new Hatfields/McCoys, if I can just get the damned game to stop crashing on me. My attempts at adding custom music seem to be fatal to the game's execution. I just want to listen to "Supper's Ready" while customizing a family. Amazingly enough, my first attempt to make a custom TV channel worked effortlessly; the Sims will now see "Porkchop Sandwiches" if they watch the cartoon channel. This is as it should be.

Squee! Grant Mythbuster! Squee! Squee!

I hope your computer will quit crashing, because I'd love to see Grant. (I love him, you know.)

I have had two casual woohoos now. The second time was a married couple. I'm still waiting for more exciting things to happen.

Do you know what STR and LTR stand for?

Squee, squee! Grant!

[identity profile] dawnmipb.livejournal.com 2007-02-18 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
Also, Bren says you forgot Buster! *g*

[identity profile] sigma7.livejournal.com 2007-02-18 07:03 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, no. I'm sure that Jamie will hand-craft a Servo to be Buster. Hell, at the rate he's plowing through the badges, maybe by the end of the week....

[identity profile] sigma7.livejournal.com 2007-02-18 07:01 am (UTC)(link)
STR: short-term relationship. Conversely, LTR: long-term relationship. You know how you spend one day talking to a Sim and your relationship numbers are 50/10 or some such? That's the STR/LTR.

And w00t for casual woohoos!

I'm sad to say I'm not quite happy with the way that Grant came out -- I can't look at him and immediately recognize him as Grant. (So I could use tips, or even a hand-crafted Sim...!)

[identity profile] dawnmipb.livejournal.com 2007-02-18 07:19 am (UTC)(link)
STR/LTR: Thank you. I couldn't figure it out. I should have known that.

I'd love to build Grant for you, but if you have Pets, he won't work in your game. :( I don't have and don't want Pets.

If you don't have Pets, but you have Uni and OFB, I can do it, I think.
Oh crud, you have Pets, as I see below. Sorry. Hmm.

One thing you have to make sure you do when you build Grant is, on the eyes, make them shallow set, not deep set. It helps with both the epicanthic fold and also he does have a bit of a bulge underneath.

I'll mess around tomorrow in the sim making screen and see how close I can get. I'll note all the positions, and if you like him, I'll share.

And a servo Buster! Perfect! I'll tell Bren.

[identity profile] dawnmipb.livejournal.com 2007-02-18 07:23 am (UTC)(link)
Was just thinking....Bren has Pets. Bren and I might be able to make him together on Bren's machine and then package him out of Body Shop. (Asians are tough in the Sims. The game doesn't represent them well in the CAS screen, and then they look totally different in the game. :P)

I'll ask him tomorrow. I'm off to bed now!

Well, here's the MythBuster family as they stand at the moment:

I'm not satisfied with Adam's hair, Tori still bothers me a bit, and Kari's so damn mercurial in real life that I feel satisfied being able to recognize her....

[identity profile] sigma7.livejournal.com 2007-02-18 07:31 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, it's 1:30 am. If mistaking a webpage URL for an image URL is the worst thing I do, I'll be happy. So let me try that again:

[identity profile] sigma7.livejournal.com 2007-02-18 08:00 am (UTC)(link)
Okay. They're in the Sims directory. I give up. Sleeep now kthzbai.

[identity profile] dawnmipb.livejournal.com 2007-02-18 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I love the Utonium family! I totally recognize the girls!

Kate's right about Grant. It looks like you probably used the default Japanese face to start (I love how there are only three recognizably Asian default faces in the CAS screen, grrrrr), which is good. His face does need a touch of shortening up and just a bit of pooching in the lower cheeks. It's hard to tell in that screen whether the eyes are shallow enough.

(In game, it only lets you close up so far, but you just hit the pause at the bottom, then touch the cursor to the top of your screen at drift at the Sim until you get where you want to be.)

The eyes and the nose are the hard part and how we recognize people. I think you have Grant's nose right for sure.

Adam and Jamie look great! Kari looks good, too. I don't immediately recognize Tory; I'd like to see close up if he has "that nose." *g*

These are great, though!

Also, I think you can download a "Roman style" haircut from MTS2 if you want to try something like that for Adam's hair. Then it could be recolored, lightened.

[identity profile] sigma7.livejournal.com 2007-02-18 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Found it; looks like Adam's due for a makeover. And Grant just might have surgery in his near future. Time to power up some of the more elaborate cheats....

[identity profile] kateshort.livejournal.com 2007-02-18 02:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, Grant doesn't really look like Grant. His face is too long. Dunno if you could make his face more round; the boy is about as circular as you can get.

Adam will appreciate the extra hair. :)

But yes-- these are brilliant.

[identity profile] sigma7.livejournal.com 2007-02-18 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I've noticed he's been growing it out as of late. I'm not sure I like it, but I figured I'd err on the side of over-shrubbery.

[identity profile] missmiah.livejournal.com 2007-02-18 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
My first attempt at a custom neighborhood ended in the tragic "OMG, Where did all the buildings I spent days on go?!" syndrome. Eventually Hogsmeade will rise again. After that I may even make some Sims to shove in there.

Haven't yet figured out if my computer will be able to run the Seasons expansion or not.

[identity profile] sigma7.livejournal.com 2007-02-18 06:51 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know if I want to bother with Seasons or not. Sure, there's the whole Plantlife thing, but I really shouldn't have installed Pets. If it weren't for the "No Pets Allowed" paintings, I'd have gone nuts from the strays, not to mention the skunks....

[identity profile] paradisacorbasi.livejournal.com 2007-02-18 02:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Seasons has advantages you can get from having gardens, though. Like potion type advantages.

But thanks for the "no pets allowed" tip; I hadn't realized one of those was in there. I can lower the strayness.

I wonder, now, if there's a way to de-scent a skunk.

I downloaded it from...er, somewhere. Can't quite remember where. A cursory glance over MATY and the wiki doesn't enlighten me either. I'll investigate in the game. I need to rebuild Utonium's club; had to trash it, as it was crashing me game.

[identity profile] sigma7.livejournal.com 2007-02-19 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
Aha. Found it.

[identity profile] paradisacorbasi.livejournal.com 2007-02-18 02:21 pm (UTC)(link)
You know you can probably download the "both bald and bereted" at someplace like www.modthesims2.com

[identity profile] sigma7.livejournal.com 2007-02-18 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
It didn't even occur to me that it wasn't possible until trying to build Jamie. Gah. I'm poking around MTS2 and not finding anything readily available yet. Grumble. But I'll keep my eyes peeled.

[identity profile] robing.livejournal.com 2007-02-21 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
I've been totally not paying attention to new Sims expansions for some time now. You're seriously making me consider plunking down some money for the expansions even though I probably wouldn't be able to play them for a couple of months now....
What's the issue with pets?? Too much breeding? Where the hell is Bob Barker when you need him?
Porkchop Sandwiches as a show is brilliant. If I get mine up and running again soon, you must tell me how to do it.
