Mar-ty! Mar-ty! Mar-ty!
The channel on which I tried to record the Chefs/Bolts game today stopped transmitting. I think it was just trying to protect me. I did tune in occasionally between trips to Kinko's, got to hear the crowd chanting for its prematurely-fired coach, and that made me smile. Olbermann named the Chargers GM and president today's worst people in the NFL, and spot on; it's the worst disintegration of a professional sports franchise that I've ever seen that didn't involve a plane crash. Yes, the season is only one-quarter done, but if this Chargers team can't hang in with the Kansas City Chiefs? Get a roll of stamps and mail it in.

And just to let you know the kind of sports day I had: I started out listening to the Padres get their butts handed to them by the Brewers, thus keeping them from getting the Wild Card. I then switched to the Rockies and Diamondbacks just in time to hear the Rockies break an eighth-inning tie with a bases-loaded triple, thus forcing a playoff with the Padres.
Well, said I, that's enough baseball for one day. So I tuned in the Chargers about four minutes into the third quarter, to find them up 16-6. Oh good, said I, maybe I can finally hear one of my teams win.
And you know the rest.

I'm sure Marty is getting a kick out of all this.

This makes me quite happy. It's good to occasionally beat the bandwagon.
God, this is going to be a long, long year.

I can't blame them for taking Rex Grossman out; I'm not sure he should be allowed to watch a football game, much less participate in one. But when Brian Griese is your fallback? You need a plan C, or just line up without a quarterback. Maybe punt on first down and let the defense carry the day....
