Aunt Eva died this weekend. She was 63. I'd seen her once in the last decade or so, and that was when the extended family congregated before my brother George's surgery. I should be more specific -- before his biggest surgery. He was having a calciated mass taken out from his torso, removing a few ribs in the process and going very close to the spinal column. Much hairier than his multiple leg/knee operations or either of his two amputations. So the family got together for what my brother called his "last supper." That was, what, two years ago? He's doin' fine now. But I'd not heard from Aunt Eva since. She died 13 years -- to the day -- after my mom. Interesting. Dad just happened to be in Texas and borrowed his sister's car to drive to Mississippi for the funeral. For him, that's like crossing the street.

Another interesting tidbit was when I met my siblings' father when he came up to see George for the "last supper" -- I'd never met him before, but apparently the sibs kept in touch with him. Seemed like a great guy; we got along pretty well. The hysterical part was that he and my dad had a great time. No social awkwardness or anything. They had a lot in common (other than the obvious) and seemed to come from similar military backgrounds. Strange times.

And as a footnote (pun very unintended), despite now being down a leg, a finger, a handful of ribs and assorted internal skeletal structures, the bro's still up and running, now a city code inspector for Manhattan. And with his new leg, he can play golf. And he's getting married at the end of next month. So no doom there.

Interview Wednesday went really well. Apparently the talent pool's pretty deep, so I'm trying not to get my hopes up -- but none of them will have quite the nocturnal expertise I do, methinks.

Bought cookies, Sprite, milk. Forgot to put any of them in the fridge. Ulp. For nine hours. The milk tastes okay, I guess. But if I die in the next two days, you know why.

Topic shift: if you ever wondered what it'd be like if they wrote the last Superman story and brought in comics' finest creators to make it, don't worry, it's already been done. First part (in the book's order) here, second part here. If it's not the best Superman story, it's right the hell up there. Even if you have no real love of the big blue boy scout, this little tale is fantastic. Even the intro gets me.

Jolene Blalock finds the final episode of Enterprise "appalling." What, more than the others? (Note: AICN link, may contain spoilers for the finale.) I had a thought while pulling into traffic the other day -- I can't believe there's not a Trek MMORPG. Five-ten years ago people were trying to do their own over the Internet, and no other speculative fiction has such a rich history and universe to toy in. It could be utter crap and still sell ten million copies. Hurry, before the franchise is well and truly dead (though if the spoilers are true, perhaps it's too late)....

Soon, trial analysis. Really. First cookies and deathmilk.

I did the same thing with cream I bought this weekend. Except it stayed out for a couple days and just ended up being thrown right away. It's what I get for being lazy and deciding that since no one besides me will be in my apartment, I don't need to put the non-perishables away until I'm good and ready to do so.

Sorry to hear about your aunt.

Hope you get your interview thingy! Yay nocturnal expertise!

And on the Superman page (the first one), I don't get the last panel on p 23... I'm assuming the speaking bit is Supergirl, and she's referring to his being upset from having seen her when she's been dead for a while, but then how would she have been there on the morning of the siege, which I'm assuming is the next day? Help!

I'm glad the interview went really well! I hope the nocturnal expertise pays off. :-)

My condolences on your aunt.

Looking forward to the trial analysis, if it's the one I'm assuming... I had an interesting experience in Lawrence in which folks were shocked that I'd managed to survive a class taught by a murderer... Be afraid... that town is completely convinced he did it.

Actually, the speaking bit is Lois -- ten years after the events in the story, she's recounting the events for a reporter for the Daily Planet, after being one of the few survivors of the siege. And entirely useless, I may add.
