Starting three years from now, if you live or work in the United States, you'll need a federally approved ID card to travel on an airplane, open a bank account, collect Social Security payments, or take advantage of nearly any government service. Practically speaking, your driver's license likely will have to be reissued to meet federal standards.

I keep meaning to tell you that I love your cat icons.... And *sigh* I hate our government sometimes. If they're gonna mandate an ID card, why don't they just mandate a passport for everyone. Then we have less junk to keep track of.

Frankly, I'll believe it when I see it. I've seen numerous governments try and fail to impose this sort of measure. I'll be very surprised if it works in America, with its fifty states more or less determined to remain equal but different.
