Did I mention I got a new computer at work? Really. It's a Mac G3, which is kind of a step up from the iMac I was on. It was the only iMac in the department, but it's now being given to another department. It was the size of a lunchbox but it had a hefty hard drive and pretty solid reliability.
The G3, on the other hand, has two hard drives -- in part because one kept failing -- and likes to crash. As a matter of fact, I've found a fool-proof way to crash the computer.
1. Open Mozilla.
2. Find a long page.
3. Using the mouse, pull the scroll bar down.
Freeze. Death.
I'm pretty solid in my diagnosis as to what's causing the problem, if only because it's happened 14 times today. It hasn't been very productive.
I realize that the odds are stacked against me because I am a browser snob. I have Mac OS 9.2, so that limits my options right there. No Mozilla for me past 1.0.2. I could use Netscape 6, but I don't hate myself. And Explorer? Doesn't support the DHTML for some of our internal pages, and it won't be updated anymore.
And I'm pretty sure this never happened to me on the lunchbox.
Grr.
