A former managing editor at The Topeka (Kan.) Capital-Journal, who was forced to resign last summer after the paper published a freelance story with fabricated information from a key source, reached a settlement with the paper this week on a wrongful-termination complaint she had filed against the daily.

Everybody's on the stupid pills this month

Harvard University's president, who offended some women at an academic conference last week by suggesting that innate differences in sex may explain why fewer women succeed in science and math careers, stood by his comments Monday but said he regretted if they were misunderstood.
