MTV -- didn't they play music videos once?

The rock band Nine Inch Nails said on Friday it canceled plans to appear on next week's MTV Movie Awards after the network questioned the band's plans to perform in front of an image of President Bush.

The band was slated to perform "The Hand That Feeds," the first single from its latest album.

A Los Angeles Times review called the song "a warning against blind acceptance of authority, including that of a president leading his nation to war."

"We were set to perform 'The Hand That Feeds' with an unmolested, straightforward image of George W. Bush as the backdrop. Apparently, the image of our president is as offensive to MTV as it is to me," Nine Inch Nails' leader Trent Reznor said in a statement posted on the band's Web site.

Okay, now I'm depressed

A reporter sent to do a story about a baby squirrel stood on the fluffy creature by mistake and killed it.

Inka Blumensaat wanted to tell how a pet cat had saved the orphaned squirrel by adopting it as her own.

But the friendly rodent jumped on her leg as she filmed her report and she panicked and trampled it underfoot, breaking its neck.

It's official: Oceanic goes under

I see Oceanic Airlines has updated its web page. Sad to see it's gone out of business in the wake of the loss of Flight 815. But I was intrigued by the image hidden on its index page.... (Also, there's goodness to be found in the Flight Tracker, even though it insists Flight 815 left from Gate 15 when it left from Gate 23....)
