Al-Zarqawi had a MySpace page? I can only imagine. I'm sure my mental image is truly superior to whatever reality can conjure.

Adjacent yet unrelated: Samiya's parents are strict Muslims. She was in the car which was dropping her off with a boy, which her parents forbid. So, instead of dropping her off in front of her house, they dropped her off across the street, so they boy would not be visible from inside the house. Samiya got hit crossing the street to her house. *HEADDESK* It's a microcosm, people.

I'm also tempted to go through here and catalog just how many of the ~300 deaths here are results of alcohol-related car accidents. But I'm not that depressed.

Also, some days, KC Scar sports columnist Jason Whitlock is occasionally, through the miracle of mathematics, correct. Today is not one of those days. Of all the columnists from the KC area to shower with attention, why Whitlock? ...Don't answer that. Hell, give me the Cap-J's Rick Dean or Kurt Caywood any day. (Do not get me started on Pete Goering. Snarl.)

Someone forgot to get his heart meds last night. Someone's probably going to lock himself in his office all day. Gulp. The stupidity is contagious.

Interstate ho(e)

I love it when e-mails my sister forwards to me get Snopesed. This time, though, she was actually right.

A hoe weighing 8 tons is on top of a flatbed trailer and heading east on Interstate 70 near Hays, Kansas. The extended shovel arm is made of hardened refined steel and the approaching overpass is made of commercial-grade concrete, reinforced with 1 1/2 inch steel rebar spaced at 6 inch intervals in a criss-cross pattern layered at 1 foot vertical spacing.

Solve: When the shovel arm hits the overpass, how fast do you have to be going to slice the bridge in half? (Assume no effect for headwind and no braking by the driver.)

Extra Credit: Solve for the time and distance required for the entire rig to come to a complete stop after hitting the overpass at the speed calculated above.
