My vote for correction of the year so far: The article “Star of David in the German armed forces” (January 10 2008) stated: “About 100 000 Jews fought for Germany during World War II. Thousands were decorated for bravery and 12 000 were killed in action.” This should have read “World War I”. (Via Regret The Error, the corrections blog.)
Okay, sometimes discretion is the better part of valor, and kudos to the White House for showing some sensitivity:

President George W. Bush postponed an event on Wednesday to promote an advertising campaign on preventing prescription drug abuse after actor Heath Ledger's death from a possible drug overdose, the White House said.

"We felt it would be better not to hold the event today given the tragedy of yesterday's passing of the beloved actor," White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said.

"We did not want anyone to think we were trying to link into that story in any way," she said.

Some good stuff this time out: the London Eye, bunneh, birdehs, and ever-helpful instructions on how to raise your children. Or not. Some good links to visit tonight. Some naughty words, though, so saddle up your coping skills. 32 pics below.... )
