The Legion of Super-Heroes is coming to Smallville.

Yes, this is probably the only thing you could do to get me to watch, and I'm still not sold on it. Throw in Quislet and you've got a deal.

It's fascinating to see the outside pundits barking that we are "destroying great newspapers". Equally fascinating is how outsiders historically claimed imminent destruction of any institutions that forced change. Certainly saw it in TV as "CNN was destroying television news" or 'Jet Air Travel was destroying the inter city travel experience'. I never got the whole 'destroying' thing. If anyone destroys a product that is of value to the public, then someone should create something in its place...instead of whining about it.

Tribune "Innovation" chief Lee Abrams, everyone. Let's give him a round of applause.

Of course, CNN didn't explode affiliates and Jet Air Travel didn't start shooting down every fifth flight.

What you can, can't have on your license plate in Colorado.

GAY and FAG are on the prohibited list but FGT isn't. Nor can you drive like HEL or have a DUI, although you could be stopped for D.U.I. You can't be a COP or with the CIA, FBI or CSP, but your plate can say DPD.

You'll find no HOE, HOR or HQR cruising the streets.

Doesn't it stink that you can't have a plate that says PEW? No POO or PEE either. You can't be DUM although you can drive like you are. And is it unfair that the crazy woman driver ahead of you can't get a plate with PMS on it, or the road-rager guy can't have SOB?

And you won't get a UFO plate no matter how bizarre your ride looks.

Even if you're Just Married, you can't get WED. And HUY may seem innocuous unless you speak Russian. But take it from us, you wouldn't drive around Moscow with it.

Your plate can't be a JEW or a JAP or a HUN or a WOP. GOD can't be your co-pilot. Nor can DOG or an ark of living creatures including CAT, SOW, PUP, APE, PIG, HOG, HEN, RAT and BUG, although you might wish the state could ban the ones smeared across your windshield.

Perhaps the oddest prohibition is the seemingly harmless MOO. Is the state afraid you might get a chuckle at the red light if you stopped behind a car that mooed?

Of course, none of these can top the glory of Florida's A55 RGY.
Ever since College Publisher bought New Digital Group (previously Digital Partners) in 2005, campus newspapers that choose not to design and host their own sites have had essentially one company to turn to that would provide those services for free in return for an online ad sharing agreement. After an acquisition the next year by mtvU, the college channel produced by MTV Networks, that service, now dubbed the College Media Network, is part of the media conglomerate Viacom. The company’s latest bid for college readers reflects not only its disappointment in the growth of online ad revenue at campus newspapers but a reliance on corporate tactics that student editors and paid general managers never expected.

The initial reaction this past week was one of shock and betrayal when representatives of mtvU first introduced a network of Web sites called Campus Daily Guides, customized for individual colleges and clearly targeted to the same online audience as college newspaper Web sites. Like other online guides to local happenings — from Google Maps to Citysearch — the sites offer a calendar of events around campus, a directory of bars and restaurants that users can update and similar services. Two components clearly aimed at students include a “Rate My Professors” module for the college, integrated with the popular Web site, as well as links to the latest news ... direct from the college newspaper itself.

(monotone) Wow. What a shocking turn of events. Who could ever have foreseen such a thing.

That's 52,622 words if you're scoring at home (or even if you're alone).

Still three chapters to go.
