Almost another unholy trifecta of gridiron agony this weekend. The highlights:

K-State gets beat by the Ragin' Cajuns (I swear to God I almost typed that "Gaijins" which would be a fantastic fantasy football team name) of Louisiana-Lafayette. If on first blush you don't realize that it's a bad, bad thing, trust me, it is: LaLa has won three games against BCS (read: "real") opponents since 1929. The Cats are looking almost as bad as they were twenty years ago -- during a three-year span in which they won exactly one game, which at least they've already managed this season. Anything else, though, is going to be a gift. Including field goals. Gah.

Chefs take the Ravens for a run but fall short. Yes, the score was 38-24, but knock off that last touchdown -- the game was actually a bit closer than 14 points would indicate, but thank former Cat John McGraw for seven of those points off a blocked punt and thank Larry Johnson for a whole 20 yards of rushing -- nice to know almost your entire day's production can be negated by a penalty. Add a point every time you went "Okay, let's look for Tony Gonzales and we'll...oh, wait, we can't" and you win.

And the Chargers beat the Raiders sometime so late last night it almost hasn't happened yet. No, I didn't stay up for it -- Ambien means never having to say you're sorry. (Not that I don't like the MNF double-header idea, but that's a bit late even for me.) But no Tony Kornheiser and thank holy God for that. And look, LT gets hurt but Darren Sproles skips onto the field like some powder-blue leprechaun and saves the Bolts' collective bacon again (eh, more credit to Rivers throwing and Jackson and Gates receiving than Sproles bearing the weight himself -- but y'all know that's going to be the perpetuated plotline: LT or 43?), which means this year is last year only longer and that appeals to me like a nail in my foot. And Raider Nation must be feeling thoroughly disrespected and slighted and that makes me smile.
