Whoever had "one hour, fifteen minutes" in the post-season Jim Wooldridge Death Watch takes the pot. (Edit: better story from the KC Scar courtesy [livejournal.com profile] patchsassy!)

(Sorry. K-State sports thing. Everyone else, carry on.)

6 seasons and no NCAA bid at all while in a major conference that regularly gets bids if you can finish with a .500 conference record? Yep, time to get a new one.

Admittedly I'm spoiled in my alma mater not getting a bid only twice since they started letting more than one team from a conference play, but if you can't get a bid after three years where you had teams consisting solely of your recruits in a power conference, you ain't cutting it.

They've already started designing the page for tomorrow.

Hell, they could've designed this last night. Just a question of after which game in the tourney.

Sad. He's a decent guy, at least, which is a lot more than you could say about Asbury.

Hell, I believe there were...what, three of us in the newsroom when Asbury got canned, [livejournal.com profile] rewil?

Google rules. :)

I think it's the difference of the first half of the season compared with the second half. Had we converted some of those games where we lost by 1, 2, 3 points, he probably wouldn't be needing those extra boxes.

I don't think [livejournal.com profile] missmiah was there ... I do remember the early morning call to NBratko, though. And the daylong slog of news, and the Chinese food, and Kinders' utter trooperness. Good times, man.

Yeah, nothing as abysmal or ludicrous as the Pasco Fiasco of '03, but a very consistent ability to yank defeat from the jaws of victory -- well, maybe it's not as much about losing as it is not winning. Semantics, I know.

I have heard one interesting name dropped in the mix as the post-Wooly that would give the day a full-circle kind of feeling....

This is the K-State basketball coach right?

From: [identity profile] patchsassy.livejournal.com

We were discussing the possiblitity of Mike Davis earlier this month in the newsroom.

I think he would be awesome. Although it might make next year's K-State/Texas Tech game sufficiently awkward.

Don't remember if I was there or not, of course since I never really gave a rat's tushy about the coaches or the sports I very well may have been and managed to block it out.

Well, if we look at the team in terms of arrests, convictions and assaulting sports columnists, we've actually improved quite a bit....

coaching thread starts .... NOW

Hey, maybe you could get Dana Altman to replace him!

/get him OUT OUT OUT of the Missouri Valley
//Creighton sucks.

Re: coaching thread starts .... NOW

Much as I feel your Altman pain, I can't see him ever returning to the scene of the crime.

If K-State puts enough money together, they might land Mike Davis, though, and I find his biggest flaw and greatest strength to both be perceived that he's not Bobby Knight. They will have to move fast, though, and I can't imagine they haven't already put out feelers.

Interesting question: when was the last time K-State replaced both their football and basketball coaches in the same year?

And has any DI college ever replaced white basketball and football coaches with African-Americans in the same year?
