Sci Fi Channel is grounding "Stargate SG-1," the longest-running science-fiction series on U.S. television to date.

The cable network has decided not to order additional episodes beyond the show's current 10th season, but it has picked up a fourth season of its more-popular spinoff, "Stargate Atlantis."

Never watched the show myself. But as long as it has an energized fanbase and decent ratings, I'm not sure why this is happening. I realize the franchise continues in SGA, but I suspect the show's costs have more to do with it....

Yeah, Sci-Fi Channel has a history of canning expensive shows even when they're doing well. Farscape was canned with no notice when it was their #2 show, because of costs. Crappy horror movies and pro wrestling are apparently cheaper on a per viewer basis.

Bastards! I should have known; any time I find a show I like on Sci-Fi, they cancel it within a season. This is the fourth or fifth time this has happened to me.

In that case, I'd...stay away from Galactica. It's...uhm, boring, that's it. Tedious and boring. Not worth your time. Yeah, that's the ticket.

(Seriously, are FOX and Sci Fi involved in some sort of Faustian wager to see which can Firefly the most shows?)

Now I'm pissed. One of the few shows I watch regularly and now they want to take it off the air. Time to write some letters.

Honestly, I just haven't been as interested in it since RDA left. I love the show, but it's turned into one I TiVO and don't watch live anymore. :/

To be fair, after 10 seasons I don't think they can quite be accused of Firflying SG1. :)

Well, for an old Farscape fan, it's just so lovely watching Ben Browder and Claudia Black together again. I'm a recent convert. I've been Netflixing the box sets, up to Season three.

Yeah, Browder coming on (plus Black as a regular) got me watching too. I was amused that while Vala had the Aeryn Sun role in the ep200 Farscape parody, Mitchell was cast as Stark.
