There are weeks on the schedule you just know you're not going to enjoy from day one. I, for my part, usually have at least two a year. Being of divided loyalties to both the Bolts and the Chefs, admittedly more toward the latter, their AFC West matchups always leave me a little sad knowing that one of my two favorites will end up getting beat that week.
And in Nuffle, there's weeks like this one, in which the PrettyBirds take on the Costa Rica Ticos. If there's anything I'd rather see than my team win, it's Rusty's, 'cause ah feel his pain. And yet in the last few years, with the strength of the Chefs' running game, I've been pretty happy with his success.
But this year, it'd have to be a shootout, of course.
Curtis Martin (25 pts), Donald Driver (23) and Priest Holmes (17) powered the Ticos to a 113-point score. Which is usually not only good enough to win but to wax the car, too. And me with the Colts taking the week off had to call in the subs -- "the best of what's left," as "Hot Shots: Part Deux" eloquently put it. Aaron Brooks (24 points, and I knew I was keeping him for a reason....), Corey Dillon (23) and Marcus Robinson (15) lead the 'Birds to a narrowly-victorious 116-point tally. Tiiiight. All I know is the next time I play the Ticos, I want the Colts to actually be playing.
This week, the 'Birds meet the Hutch JayDogs, who're helmed by Dante Culpepper and averaging almost 100 points more than the 'Birds this season. Gulp.
