Global disaster but planet not actually destroyed? SEE? Could be worse!

My favorite part of the battleship? It's Lego, to minifigure scale. It's the most fantastic single Lego construct I've ever seen, even moreso than the Lego World Trade Center, even with its ironic fate.

The Apocalypse Scale is cool, but if you're interested in the subject, you should check out How to destroy the Earth. It provides a perspective on apocalypse ambitious enough to render the survival or extinction of humanity irrelevant.
Buried somewhere in there is a calculation of the gravitational binding energy of the Earth (the minimum energy required to blow up the planet hard enough to keep the pieces from falling back together). It works out to be nearly the total energy output of the sun for a week.
