My wisdom teeth experience is much the same as patchsassy, and fortunately, I haven't had too many cases where painkillers were needed. Dentist was a few of them, but I didn't find it any hellish than ... expected, I guess.
For what it's worth, they prescribed a mild narcotic after they reset the toe, but I didn't fill it, and I went to work the next day.
