I remember that ish -- also notable for Rick Flagg in a posthumous appearance. (I never read the follow-up.) And from what I remember, Gaiman more or less disavowed that interpretation, saying that Death is death, essentially -- disappointing, because the aspects-of-death (including Black Racer, IIRC) tied together pretty well in that story.
