I'm just trying to imagine someone really getting that worked up about losing a character. Reminds me of playing Dungeon Quest, a game which should have the advisory "Life is cheap" -- maybe a 25% survival rate. If she gets that riled up about losing a character, I wonder how she handles the milk in the fridge expiring.

I find the tale of Eric and the Dread Gazebo to be a much more accurate representation of the role-playing experience. Just clueless in an entirely different way.

I sent this to my gaming group, which is usually pretty incommunicado between sessions other than confirming we're on or off for a given Friday or Sunday, but this has a virtual torrent of e-mail flying around.

What's the consensus? Is it "Why don't you ever get that passionate about a character?" or "Why haven't we started dressing up in black robes and communing with dark and evil forces beyond our conception?"

I tease. I forget some people might take this seriously. It's just so...out there, so outlandish, it's ridiculous. But this attitude is borne of familiarity, and those not familiar might find room for fear. That's the disappointing part.
