A judge in a downtown courtroom sentenced a couple to probation Wednesday for locking the woman's son in the trunk of their car while they celebrated her birthday in a bar.

Sarah Marie Powell, 27, locked her 7-year-old son in the trunk while she and her boyfriend, Jake Faria, 31, celebrated her birthday Aug. 23 inside Winston's Beach Club in Ocean Beach.

Good GOD. That poor little girl! I can't imagine how painful it must be to suffer through that many surgeries already.

Yeah, my heart's officially broken after that. The good news is there were people on Fark (on the thread that was originally about the trunk-kid) talking about setting up a site for helping them, and that wouldn't have happened without the original story, so that's...uhm, the circle of life...?

That family needs all the help they can get. I simply can't imagine.
