The McDonald's restaurant in Hermiston, Oregon appears to be "outsaucing" customers drive-thru meals.

The restaurant on Highway 395 has outsourced one of the most important jobs at the drive-through window -- order taking.

When a customer drives through, they'll be patched through to Grand Forks, North Dakota to place the order. Why? Because the minimum wage in North Dakota is $5.15, compared to Oregon's $7.25.

I recently called a service center around 3 p.m. in the afternoon (Eastern time) and the woman replied good morning. I didn't really think anything of it and in fact think I replied the same thing. A few moments later, she started apologizing profusely and saying how she'd been working all day. She had a slight Indian accent, so I can't help but wonder if my toll-free call had been routed overseas. I'm not quite sure of the time difference, but I assume it was actually (very early) morning where she might have been. My department got outsourced at my first job, though that was just to a town 45 minutes away. And we all quit before the move took place.
