Hugo Weaving has joined the Wachowski Brothers' and Joel Silver's production of action-thriller "V for Vendetta," starring opposite Natalie Portman. He'll play the title vigilante character known as V. Weaving replaces James Purefoy, who left the production for undisclosed reasons.

It's official. Must see this film.

Also it's a disturbing reminder how Variety style just makes me ill. Not in the cited text above, just in general.

File under frightening: the "Watchmen" movie website. Gulp. This is really going to happen, then? Please don't cop out the ending....

Hugo Weaving? Well, there you go. Absolutely a must-see. Not that I know -anything- else about it. But that doesn't matter. ^_^

It's on the short-list of must-read comic works of the last twenty-thirty years. The original was set in a postapocalyptic Britain, but I believe the movie's slated to take place in an alternate reality where Nazi Germany won WWII. Either way, Britain's been taken over by a stifling fascist regime and V is the man intent on bringing it all down. It's a great read. Written by Alan Moore, a very frightening and supremely talented individual. If he's not the most creative man in the comic business, he's in the top three.

But I also understand your raw Hugo-fondness. There is nothing he can't do.

Aw, man. I was figuring they were gonna ruin it, and so wasn't getting any hopes up.

Now gullible me will be wanting some merchandise.
