From the GameFAQs Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas page, the girlfriend FAQ. it's not only applicable to video games, but in a larger sense, there's some real-world truths in here too.

One very important thing that you should never do on a date is abuse the girl. This means hitting her or shooting her with any weapons. If you just hit her once, the date might not immediately end. However, shooting the girl or beating her repeatedly will instantly end the date. Either way, your relationship will go down considerably. All of the girls can take quite a few hits, including multiple headshots from various weapons. However, they can die, and if (you) kill a girl through abuse, she will no longer be your girlfriend.

Wow. That's...profound. Is this true for boyfriends as well, 'cause, if so, NO WONDER MY RELATIONSHIPS SUCK! Hee. I especially like "if you kill a girl through abuse, she will no longer be your girlfriend." Honestly, if I had some dead girl ghost thing following me around being my girlfriend after I killed her, I think I'd be concerned. Talk about not knowing when the relationship is over...

After all this teasing, I finally "went" on my first GTA "date" and oh, it went about as awfully as some real-world events I've lived through. I actually ran myself over. It's impressive in the sense that I didn't know it was possible. But still, whoa.

Subsequent outings, well, were varied. Some ended well. Some ended with the girl on fire, me falling off a bridge and in a hail of bullets. Again, just like real life.
