sigma7: Sims (heart go boom)

Nothing ruins a good Thursday like driving two hours. It's time -- overdue, actually -- for a checkup on the ol' ticker. So it's an EKG for me. I'm guessing that the entire appointment will consist mostly of, in order, waiting, getting and EKG, and talking to the doc. He will, more than likely, try to get me to stop taking my heart meds, which is a fantastically awful idea. Not because I like paying for meds, but because every time I forget to take them, my body reminds me with a stray heartbeat or two every minute or so. So I get that feeling of perpetual exhaustion, like I've just run a mile and a half, without any of the actual benefits of exercise. Add to that the heat (which, thankfully, we've just earned a respite from) and, well, I get grumpy. Like I'm not usually, I know.

Still, I'm guessing the whole appointment will take 15 minutes. Hardly worth waking up for. It's always so frustrating, because either whatever's plaguing me remains uncharacteristically perfectly quiet during the EKG, or the doc is nonplussed by my symptoms. Which I guess I can understand. I'm not nearly in as dire shape as any of his other patients, and it's not like I'm doing 255 bpm in a 55 zone anymore. It could be worse, I know, but it could also be better. At least they could give me some Percocet. Just on principle.

Yeah, I really need to get my priorities straight. This is what I did instead of napping. I regret it.

And why are all the specialists an hour away? Seems like there should be ONE heart doc in town...

Good thing you only have to go twice a year, huh?

Well, there's Hurtig, for your run-of-the-mill heart ailments. But since Seals was the one who did the heart-pokey, I guess he's got dibs on me. Of course, seeing him made hella more sense when I worked up there.

Heh, I said "hella."

Wow! I COMPLETELY forgot about him! Wonder if you could talk to Taylor about having Hurtig do your checkups in the future? (Don't suppose that would be good to bring up with Seals *grin*) But you're probably right about the heart-pokey doc getting priority.

Sucks.

That's not a half-bad idea. Might just do that if I ever see Dr. T. again. And, knowing me, that's a when, not an if.

And I found this and just wanted to throw it in because it made me start laughing.

I don't understand, but I don't care.

Those "what"s needs a few "!"s and some "?"s and possibly also some "*"s thrown in for good measure. Hrm..is that grammatically correct?
Sorry to hear about the medical misery. I feel your pain, sorta. Well, I could share a pic of my IV bruise from last Sunday, if you like...

I have no idea what the picture even really means. But the dog looks quite content in his newfound sausageness.

Oooh, IV bruise! I confess a macabre and disturbing interest. Whyfor the IV? Hope you're better....

Well, it's really not as interesting as it may seem. I had some very strange symptoms with my bronchitis including abdominal and lower back pain. Kinda freaked me out, so Kay took me to the hospital. They checked me out for the usual things (strep, mono, TSS) and apparently felt I was dehydrated or something which meant IV.
It may've been the first IV I ever had. It's certainly the first I remember. The chills were not pleasant.
I'm getting better. My coughs and my voice make me sound like a 2 pack a day smoker, but hopefully that'll go away soon enough. Not nearly in the "heart go boom" category, but it was more than enough excitement for me.

Ick! I remember the chills. That's a little creepy. Glad to hear you're pullin' together, though. Hope you're restin' and relaxin' and allowing yourself to be doted on properly....
