A concerned citizen called police after seeing a boy carrying a suspiciously concealed item into a junior high school.

Police were called. The school was locked down. Adjacent streets were closed and law officers were perched on roofs with weapons.

The drama ended about two hours later when the suspicious item was identified:

A 30-inch burrito, prepared as an extra-credit assignment and wrapped inside tinfoil and a white T-shirt.

An announcement of a gay civil union ceremony placed in last Sunday's MetroWest Daily News weddings page was this week revealed to be a "prank," perpetrated by one of the two men involved.

The listing of the impending "civil union" ceremony between Jeff West and Matt Hunt was a hoax, West admitted yesterday.

"This was just a prank that just got a little bigger than I expected," West said. "I really expected no one to even see it.

"I e-mailed some friends to go pick it up," he said. "I expected people to joke about it. I thought it would be (old news) by Tuesday."

As it turned out, however, Matthew Hunt, the other man in the announcement and in the photo wasn't laughing....
