A leaf on the wind

Saw Serenity, enjoyed, as did the audience. A few jolts, much laughter, a few audible gasps. But I'm interested in the reactions of non-fans to the flick, either you or a friend who've seen it without the luxury of any of the series. Does it stand on its own merits? Call it idle rumination on the gentle art of moviemaking. (Warning: spoilers in comments.)

"Intense" is a word that's popped up that I think describes it pretty accurately. I think Simon was quite a bit off -- he wasn't in space-nerd mode and in full-bore protect-sister mode, so I dunno if that accounts for it.

But from all I've read from Joss, the crew won't be confined to TV ever again -- it seems to be silver screen or no screen.
