I was gonna make a snide comment on the outcome of the KSU-OU game, but...the hell?

Police were investigating an explosion at the University of Oklahoma late Saturday that apparently killed one person outside a campus building.

Campus police Sgt. Gary Robinson said authorities believe the blast was caused by an explosive device.

"It was an explosive device with one fatality," he said.

Robinson did not know the identity or gender of the person whose body was found outside the university’s botany-microbiology building. He also did not know if there were other injuries or if the building was occupied.

Police cordoned off an area west of a packed Oklahoma Memorial Stadium, where the Oklahoma Sooners were playing a football game against Kansas State. Spectators reported hearing a loud boom just before the end of the first half, but no smoke or fire was seen.

Edit: More data here. Sounds like a "meh" more than a "WTF" now.

Also: I don't mind losing, guys. This is K-State. We invented losing. Or at least perfected it. All I ask is the next time we try to punt the ball, and we hike the ball, could someone, y'know, check to make sure there's actually a punter back there?

Scary. I really think a college football game is a scarily ideal place for a terrorist attack. Take a stadium like Michigan or Penn State and you've got 100,000 people, with somewhat weak security (especially in the winter, when it wouldn't seem odd to wear a bulky coat). It's also the middle of nowhere, so would scare people I think maybe more than an attack in a major city because then it's anywhere that could be a target.

This doesn't really sound like a (foreign) terrorist attack, but I'm just saying.

Yeah -- I don't think you can underestimate not only the effectiveness but the psychological impact of a terrorist attack at a sporting event, particularly one being carried on a major channel. That would be...catastrophic.

I saw this update (http://wizbangblog.com/archives/007254.php) over at Wizbang. He links to Northeast Intelligence Network (http://www.homelandsecurityus.com/) which says that some officials think the bomb went off early. This could move it back to "WTF" from "meh" status.

If the game wasn't so terrible, I might been watching when it happened although I doubt anything was heard on TV. It was shown on one of the channels I get and I would flip back to it every so often until it was really unbearable. I knew it was bad when OU scored easily and the score was 0-7. I came back a short time later and KSU had the ball as you would expect, but the score was 0-9. Damn, OU had gotten a safety, which is what you linked to.

At least we are at a point where a game like this is a disappointment instead of an expectation.
