It's all fun and games until you've got a squirrel doing laps around your torso inside your shirt and yes, this is the voice of experience. The chattering sound that wee beastie made while being pulled from within was...unforgettable.

I was too young (2 or so) to really remember, but I saw the home movies of a little squirrel we had for a while. My dad was working as a tree trimmer and found it after a storm. It was young enough to run around and play and not be afraid of us people, but one day the folks were having a barbeque. It started to rain and they pushed the smoky grill inside. The squirrel got scared and ran out, where it discovered the joys of the great outdoors and the park across the street. It never came back into the house, but it would come and take food from my parents hands for a long time after that. So they tell me.

Amazing. I thought dogs had an innate hatred of squirrels. Ours sure does and Jonah at NRO talks about his dog Cosmo's terrorizing of the Jacobin squirrels in his park.

Just yesterday Cubby was going nuts by the back door. I looked out and a squirrel had dragged an ear of corn into our backyard and was dining on it there. I opened the door and Cubby chased the squirrel out of the yard. Fortunately for it, it made it safely to a tree. Cubby came back and ate the corn.

Whenever we go for walks she wants to chase any squirrel she finds. If there is no traffic and we aren't on a main street we let her go. Usually the squirrels make it to a tree. Once however, a squirrel only went up the tree a little bit, circle the trunk, and decided to come back down. Cubby got that one and before we got to her she had killed it.
