I'm currently in exile, camping out in the computer labs. The original plan was for the evil orange-red carpet in my office to be torn out today, so my staff and I moved most of the desks, storage closets, etc. to adjacent rooms. The facilities staff moved the rest today and began ripping up carpet while I busied myself best I could with my computer disassembled. And then the scuffling/scraping next door stopped, and I looked to see the door taped shut with a nice big "DANGER ASBESTOS" sign on it. Perfect cake-topper on the week. Yay for impending cancer.

Now I am a nomad techie, wandering the halls. It's like Kung Fu, but with more wireless mice.

This is a GREAT opportunity for you to organize the heck out of the poor office. I don't know how you guys found anything... lol

Asbestos isn't a problem until you stir it up. As a state job, the contractors are going to have to go through all the proper procedures. The office will probably get cleared of some mold and other bad things as a result.

Now you just have to worry about your new carpet offgassing. That's where the danger lies. :)

But remodeled offices are good. It's a great opportunity to get rid of crap nobody has looked at in five years.

It still has to feel good to say "my staff".
