Took Tiny and Moosie in to get wings/toenails trimmed. They were good little monsters, Tiny Moo his usually rowdy self, Moosie more relaxed and spent the time in the waiting room perched on Daddy's finger through the carrier cage door. Brought them back home, all was fine and good until...wait, is Tiny bleeding? Yup, a frightening amount of blood from one of his left toenails, where Tiny'd apparently picked off the coagulant. So thank God the vet's a block away, as Tiny and I came tearing in and the vet met us as we came bounding in the front door, Tiny chirping his mad-chirp and Daddy deeply frazzled and leaving fingernail marks in his own hands (something usually reserved for dental visits).

The vet retrimmed the nail to near-nonexistent levels, applied some coagulant, and also made sure that the resulting nub was almost non-pickable, but I'm keeping an eye on Tiny, as he has a habit of finding a way. But because of the blood loss, they gave him some fluids (OMG A SHOT DADDY THEY GAVE ME A SHOT he explained to me in furious squeaks on the way home) and said he might be a little lethargic after his...active morning. Him and me both.

At last check all three birds were poofed up on their perches making their "contented-chewing-on-rock" sounds and preparing to nap. Tiny is resting on one foot, picking up his left foot and tucking it up into his feathers. Too cute.

I love the contented-chewing-on-rock sound. My little one got his wings and nails clipped last Thursday...he sulked for two entire days afterward. I almost didn't have them do his wings, but he crashed into a wall 20 minutes before the appointment and erased my guilt.

Funny how the "chewing" sound can be so grating the first two or three days you hear it, but from that point on you understand that it equates to cockatiel bliss, and really, there's no better sound....

The birds got frightened by Batman Begins tonight. Muffin still can't fly very well -- he hovers, more of an up-and-down flight risk than a full-throttle-forward like Tiny and Moosie. But neither of the latter two went anywhere at all. And they're still rediscovering climbing up fabric and gripping (with a few thuds today). Poor things. But if this doesn't mean fishing them off curtain rods anymore, so be it.
