Via Boing Boing. Insert Andie McDowell squeaking here.

Sharon Tendler married her boyfriend in a private ceremony in Eilat, Israel. They've been in a relationship for 15 years. Sharon is a human. Her boyfriend, named Cindy, is a dolphin.

1) I look forward to the inevitable headlines on their divorce of "So Long, And Thanks For All The Fish".

2) Why the heck is a boy dolphin named Cindy?

This raises several questions. Of all the animals she could have fallen in love with and married, why did it have to be a dolphin? Why not a more domestic, accessible animal, like a dog or goat or pig? What kind of marriage can a land-bound woman have with an aquatic mammal? Where will they live? Where will they sleep? How did Cindy say "I do"?

And if they can have inter-species marriages in Israel, why can't we have adult, all-human, same-sex and/or polyfaithful marriages here?

The marriage isn't legally recognized in either the UK or Israel, so it has no bearing on the question of gay or polyfaithful marriage.

And yet it has a more stable foundation and will probably last longer than most Hollywood marriages.

What kind of marriage can a land-bound woman have with an aquatic mammal?

Why do I have the uncomfortable feeling that there's a fanfic out there that answers that question...?
