Quickie review of Google Pages: dead simple. Took a few minutes, a few clicks, a touch of typing and about nine free neurons to get a page up and online. It's template driven, which is both its strength and weakness: it's built for the web neophyte who doesn't need to worry about coding or uploading HTML. And in that, I think, it addresses a segment of the population that tends to cerebrally lock up every time someone mentions HTML.

It's not trying to be a solution for us l33t-hax0rz who need PHP and SSI; it's shooting for people trying to bridge that disconnect between having an idea and expressing it on the Web. And in this, I think they're going to succeed. It very well could fulfill that gap, be a stepping stone to bigger and better presences on the Web, or it could simply do what its users want: get their content an audience and do it simply and efficiently.

Anybody who's been looking to create Web pages but hasn't wanted to deal with hosting, HTML editing or the other sundry technical trivialities of creating a Web presence might want to give this a look. It's simple and it's easy.

You should! You'll need to sign onto the waiting list, but it's had a pretty decent turnaround time. Give it a shot!

I'm on the waiting list. Wheee!

Do I have anything to say to the world? Guess that remains to be seen...

By the way...

You're on campus, right?

We should totally get together for coffee sometime.
