A Maine couple upset that their 19-year-old daughter was pregnant tied her up, loaded her in their car and began driving to New York to force her to get an abortion, police said.

Ew. New York. *shudder*

Eugh. So noted. I guess if they really wanted to be cruel to her, they could've driven to Oklahoma.

I find it almost hilarious that they didn't even need to leave the state -- they could've had the abortion in Maine, according to its state laws (well, aside from the whole unwilling-mother bit)....

It seems they were under the impression, mistaken or otherwise, that Maine didn't allow late term abortions.

Of course, had the daughter been 17 instead of 19, it wouldn't even have been kidnapping. Maybe some form of child abuse, though.

She probably has a case for unlawful confinement. Even as a minor, that wouldn't be impossible, according to Maine statutes - I couldn't find an exception for parental rights. The child abuse statutes clearly address this situation though.

*shudder* Criminal law. Ick.

Sounds like my dad. Well, as a figure of speach, not litterly.
