So a little before 5 am here, there's a flash of light from the west (how bright, I dunno -- I was half asleep) followed 5-7 seconds later by a long rumbling sound, about twice as long as your run-of-the-mill thunderclap, I guess. So either we're having thundersnow -- which is not unheard of, I know -- and this was the only lightning strike of the night, or something on the other side of town exploded (there were sirens about 3-4 minutes later).

It was not, as my first thought usually is when there's a flash of light or satellite interference, Fort Riley getting nuked. That would've taken a lot longer for the sound to get here, and it probably would've been a bit louder.

And now I'm awake. Bother.

Last night around 11, the little weather bug in the corner of the screen on channel 13 had, like, five different colors on it. The weather gods are vacationing here. Gonna be fun trying to get to campus this morning.

It was actually very placid out this morning -- and it's a good wet snow, too, so it packs and moves easily. If this is winter's last gasp, it's a beauty.

Yeah, fortunately by the time I got on the road at 7:50, it was pretty much melted down to the pavement on all the road segments I had to use. Apparently, people trying to come in from Wamego earlier had whiteout conditions to contend with, though. And chunks of Junction City had blackouts thanks to snow on the wires getting so heavy it pulled 'em down.

Thundersnow!!!

There was a LOT of lightning off in the distance last night when I was heading to work. I was expecting a doozy of a thunderstorm. Very displeased when that didn't happen.

While I initially friended you due to the joy of picspam, I must admit that I find your other posts entertaining as well. Don't particularly know what made me decide to say that let alone that now was the time to say it, but there you have it.

Thanks muchly -- I'm still dealing with residual guilt from not being able to picspam more (work's gone from being an occasional draw of my attention to a whirlpool engulfing all it touches), but this makes me feel better for putting "earning an income" above "doing picspam"....

So, I'm not the only one whose mind has dwelt on Fort Riley getting nuked. When I was at KSU, I used to entertain myself while walking to class by thinking about what barrier I could get behind if I ever caught the flash out of the corner of my eye, and which wall of which big nearby campus building would give me the best chance, should I manage to get against it before the shock wave reached campus.

We had that storm, such as it was, last night. I left the house a little before 4 under a mildly overcast sky, and by the time Mike and I were leaving Wal-mart an hour later, it was snowing to beat Moses. Except by the time we drove 3 miles and were on the road home, we were out from under it again, and today it's sunny and, well, above freezing. If I have to have a late spring snowstorm, that's the kind I want.
