Collegian headline of the day: "Mac systems provide integraded software, protection from spyware"

And this is without reading the...story? Ad? Column? It's none of these. It's...I don't know what it is, really.

For the love of Christ, people.

Edit: no, it gets better -- "Apple computers steal programs from Microsoft, offer few options"

With Windows' system is Microsoft's Internet Explorer, an Internet browser. The Internet browser is free from the Microsoft Web site. After Microsoft decided to develop this browser, Apple came up with its own browser, Safari. Please keep in mind the key words here: after Microsoft. Apple is really not original at all.

Oh my God, there's not enough ink in the world to cover this much concentrated stupidity.

This is like the pro/con columns from the Onion, right? Tell me it's a parody. (If they're lucky, they'll be able to excuse the columns as parody. Oh god.)

I'm really tempted to email the sophomore in communications and ask her if she's ever heard of checking her sources. Even Wikipedia would have straightened her out on the history of browsers. Good grief.

I checked it out in the print version and, no, not a parody. If it were, it would be amusing. As it is, it's just...depressing.

There was a time when they would do the "clash of the columnists," the artificial conflict where they make columnists take opposing viewpoints on a particular topic and occasionally the editors would inflict stances on writers who didn't necessarily hold that stance. It was undeniably idiotic. I wish I could be surprised that (a) it's one of the few pieces of the Collegian legacy it retains and (b) it's now migrated to the "Edge" (the oh-so-precious name for the arts & entertainment section)....
