What's the whole "the cake is a lie" thing? It's going all "All Your Base" memey, but with the smug "I know something you don't know" annoying spin to its injokeness.
During several missions you are promised cake. Or at least, there is talk of baking, and cake. Until it becomes quite clear that you are the one to be baked. The message "the cake is a lie" is scrawled in graffiti you can access by rooting around behind a few access panels, hinting that completing the tests is not the end....
The end sequence, though, is rife with cake, and in a good way. Cake is as much a symbol of Portal as are the Weighted Companion Cube and the portals themselves.
Heh, cute. Thanks. It's been bugging me that people can't answer a simple question sometimes, saying, "Go play the game!" Except I'm not GOING to play the game, lacking both a system that can run it and a desire to play puzzle games in general. So thanks for the actual reply.
I'm normally not big on puzzle games either, but, well, then I heard who did the end credit song and decided I had to make it to the end to hear it....
For uber-spoilage, when you finally come face-to-face with the malevolent and murderous AI in charge of the tests, she does taunt you with parties, recipes, and speaks muchly of cake and the Weighted Companion Cube you were forced to euthanize. Seriously, it's a very funny game, and I'm not doing it justice....
