I did not repeat did not just stay up until midnight watching the Olympics or, worse yet, gymnastics. Is "first sporting event in hi-def" a defense?

Edit: to offset the pathetic factor: watch the space shuttle launch from a passing plane.

Hey, I was up until 1 a.m. But seriously, how awesome was it to see the US kick those little Chinese girls' asses at their own game? It's like...MWAHAHAHAHAHA, how do you like THAT Star-Spangled Banner.

Well, if the Americans hadn't nailed their floor exercises, there would've been hell to pay, given the...well, discrepancies with the scoring criteria for the earlier events. I was beginning to worry that the commentating crew was going to get their mikes pulled for a minute.

Oh dear God I can't believe I'm actually having this conversation

Um. Yeah. I mean, seriously. The judging has just been HORRENDOUS for all of the gymnastics. They've been taking FOREVER to give the scores out (they never actually flashed Shawn Johnson's score and I didn't hear it because two of my co-workers were having a very spirited discussion on how long this Georgia thing is going to take to escalate into WWIII.) plus there's been so many "interesting" scoring that benefits their own, but no one else. Yes, the Chinese has been good to this point, but with all of the developments coming out about their women's gymnastics team (which, you know. If one of those girls is over 16, I'm a monkey's uncle. They all look like they're about 12, which some of them actually are), it could have gotten very very ugly tonight.

I can still see Nastia Liuken going up and showing her dad her gold and saying, "I got one too, daddy!!!"
