Bizarrely, the killer (b)lizzard managed to miss us entirely. A few scattered snowflakes, a little bit of rain, and that's it. Well, okay, the temps dropped about a hundred degrees, but that's perfectly acceptable. I was expecting the whole world to white-out under a blanket of WINTRY DOOM, not that I'm complaining.

Next week, the last week of classes. Wheee! Have I mentioned lately how much I like not being a student anymore?

To celebrate, a picspam, of course. Warning: many cat macros below. I'm sorry, but I'm a simple man with simple pleasures.

I've always said I want to come back as a cat for my next life, but judging by the last photo I was one in my last life.

You've used one of my photos - the goose head just over half way down - in breach of my copyright. Please delete it (and any other photos of mine you might have stolen) immediately.

If you'd asked my permission to use it, I would probably have said yes, but you didn't.

From: [identity profile] sigma7.livejournal.com

Of course. In keeping with Rule 1c, it's gone: the link to your image and your journal are thusly removed. Sincerest apologies for any inconvenience or distress.

From: [identity profile] mitzimaybe.livejournal.com

OK, apology accepted. Ask first, next time. You should ask everyone whose pictures you want to use, before you use them, otherwise it's a breach of copyright. It's not enough to say "I'll take it down if someone complains", because how are they to know you're doing it?

I hear your point on the direct linking being "not as bad" as saving the image elsewhere and loading it yourself, but by doing that, surely you're stealing bandwidth as well as the image?

It's too bad your talent as a photographer far exceeds your talent as a human being.

Here's what you COULD have done when you saw your pic linked here--looked at how it was being presented--essentially in a showcase of interesting, original and fun pictures. Then you could have posted a comment thanking Sig for including you, and inviting people to come to your journal to see your other work.

You could have increased your audience significantly, instead of turning people off by your self-important ego tripping. Instead, you have subtracted from the sum total of innocent human enjoyment for many people.

Thanks a bunch.

No, no, she was well within her rights, honestly. I didn't ask permission, and I can see how it appears I was trying to encroach on her territory, and she had every right to ask me to remove her imagery. That was part of the deal from the outset; she never agreed to be part of this. She's perfectly entitled to her reaction.

I'm very sorry to everyone involved; I didn't want anything like to this to happen from the outset, and I don't want it to happen again.

Sig, she's well within her legal rights. She's also being a whiny, contentious dick. The two are not divorced from one another, after all.

From: [identity profile] marysiak.livejournal.com

Yah, you always link to the original source of the image. In essence you're giving free advertising to the owners of the image. It's not like you're claiming you took the photos.

She's within her rights to ask you to remove it, but I think accusing you of having "stolen" it is a bit silly and asking permission for every image used is not practicle in this context. It's not like your a professional money making website, you're just an lj.

From: [identity profile] sigma7.livejournal.com

I understand your points, and if I thought I was "stealing" anything, believe me, I wouldn't have put a link back to your journal. I wanted picspam to act as a sort of vetted recent LJ images page (which you may be interested in opting-out of), a starting point for exploring the LJ community, for connecting with the zeitgeist, for general amusement. Instead, it's evoked feelings of encroachment and resentment, and disproportionate to my ability to invest in it.

If you honestly can't see the spirit in which it was intended, I'm very sorry.

In what way is displaying an image clearly backlinked to its perpetrator stealing?
