Blame recession cuts. Pizza Hut is reportedly slicing the "pizza" from its name. The fast food chain will now be known simply as "The Hut."

...The new "hut" stores will be more than simply places to place a delivery order, according to MediaWeek. They will include televisions that broadcast CBS programs such as "Wheel of Fortune" and "Entertainment Tonight."

The company has tried to become more hip and youth friendly in recent months. In April, it introduced the Pizza Hut "Twintern," an employee who uses the online service Twitter to update customers about store events and pop culture news....

I noticed our pizza box just said “The Hut” on it the other day, and I thought they were just trying to be quirky and fun. Not OFFICIAL. Hurr dee durr.

It's news to me, I work at a Pizza Hut, and yea the boxes are labeled The Hut, but we still have the same old signage, with no memos mentioning any change. And we sure aren't advertising for Twinterns, which only makes me think of twinkies for some reason...
Either that person writing that article had too much redbull and read too much into his pizza box, or someone at Yum has loose lips and an active imagination.
I will inquire and follow up...stay tuned!
