mightygodking: Endorsements Dept.

I was chatting with a American friend of mine recently, and said friend is one of those legendary "undecided voters" - to wit, not registered with either party, and says she is "on the fence" - which is really a polite way of saying she's voting for Kerry and doesn't feel satisfied about doing so, which was what most people who "are on the fence" in fact are doing (and usually for Kerry because that's how undecideds historically vote). And in said chat, she said to me, "I know the case against Bush, I understand that. I just wish there was a reason for me to vote FOR John Kerry." And after some thought, I gave her the reasons that I could offer to vote proactively for John Kerry rather than "anyone but Bush". I thought I would repeat them here.

"It's a lot to take in. It opens your eyes to things you wouldn't normally think about," says Tara Blocker. "If she sees blood, she knows to stop. There's only so much you can tell a 5-year-old."

Republicans Go Gay to Attract Florida Voters

When we first heard about the Republicans "pretending to be gay" in order to influence voters in Ft. Lauderdale, we thought: Pretend? Look, just because you'll trade a little ass-play for a Bush vote, that doesn't make you gay. . . it makes you dedicated.
Daily Iowan's Oct. 29 headline error inexcusable - Daily Iowan - Metro

Because of editing errors on several levels, the Oct. 29 edition of The Daily Iowan contained a front-page story on the UI chapter of College Republicans with an erroneous headline. As Editor in Chief, I take full responsibility for the headline "UI Republicans work hard at preserving their delusions" and want to clarify that the story's writer, DI reporter Nick Petersen, had nothing to do with the error.

At the gun (whenever that is) the score will be Kerry 306, Bush 232. Or for the popular-vote fans, 50-48, with Nader pulling 1 (down 1 from 2000) and "other" another 1. Why? Undecideds breaking for the non-incumbent. That's my best guess. I have no idea. Stab in the dark as to turnout: 119 million.

Also, I sincerely doubt we'll know with a 1996-ish degree of certainty who the winner is, but I also doubt we'll have a 2000-ish wave of confusion. I think we'll have a pretty good idea. (Man, I miss the days when we could say things like "In a few days we'll know who the next president is.")

Anyhow, as long as the Supreme Court doesn't get involved and nobody gets killed, it's still better than most of the world.
The Onion | Republicans Urge Minorities To Get Out And Vote On Nov. 3

MIAMI, FL—With the knowledge that the minority vote will be crucial in the upcoming presidential election, Republican Party officials are urging blacks, Hispanics, and other minorities to make their presence felt at the polls on Wednesday, Nov. 3.

And my horoscope:
Libra: (Sept. 23—Oct. 23)
The stars have something frightfully urgent to tell you, but the new Grand Theft Auto just came out, and they're not leaving the house.

CNN.com Election 2004 - U.S. President

If you're a news-junkie like me, you'll probably be hitting this page hard tomorrow. It's a nice, compact design. I think the browser would scream if you tried to stuff more into it. The state result pages are impressive, too -- let's hope this holds up tomorrow night.
