Brett Favre retires. If I'm at all glad, it's only because I'm glad to see him retire relatively intact and also will be glad to have the sports media stop slobbering all over him. Appreciation for the man and his talents is fine; starry-eyed fawning is obnoxious.

I don't know how to break this to my favorite Wisconsinite faculty member, who is in class right now. Sigh.

Via MightyGodKing, word that Gary Gygax has died.

I can't even begin to imagine the level of influence the man has over gaming/geek culture, and by osmosis, pop culture, even modern culture as a whole.
I think the one thing that has me depressed today -- as if there wasn't enough already -- is the probability that the Democratic primary will be (a) essentially decided and (b) still going on after tonight. The primaries combine the sound and fury of politics with the heart-stopping thrill of an Excel spreadsheet. Take out the spreadsheet and...well, it's just politics, and that's too much tedium for my system. Sorry.

That said, here's hoping everyone in VOTR (Vermont, Ohio, Texas and Rhode Island) cast their votes today.

Today's picspam? One flip of the bird, one f-bomb, but otherwise, critter-and-squirrel intense, as you'd expect. And the birth of the Magneto meme, which is no end of fun, lemme tell ya. 50 pics below.... )
